Christine Montague is an academically trained, award-winning visual artist who paints beautiful, realistic, uplifting portraits of people and nature in oil on canvas.
Themes to Christine's work include summer, escape and solitude without loneliness. Her Lake Dreams Series represent longing for the cottage and the contented moments of solace found there. Recent paintings feature the polar bear, and the effect of vanishing sea ice.
Christine is also and accomplished portrait painter who accepts portraiture commissions. Her portraiture was represented by Xanadu Gallery in the prestigious American Art Collector magazine, August 2012.
Christine is adept at both small and large scale oil painting. "Little Portrait Paintings", 6" x 6" oil portraits from photographs, make original portraiture painting accessible to the first time collector.
Animals portraits are also included in Christine's portfolio. Christine had fun with this subject in her series "Big Cats", a series of 4' - 5' black, white and silver oil painting and oil stick portraits of a silver Main Coon cat.
Christine is an avid blogger. Read her blog "Camera and Canvas" for info on oil painting and photography. Follow Chritsine on twitter at CMontagueArtist. Like her facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/littleportraitpaintings.
Christine's art work have been exhibited in over 50 juried and group art shows, as well as 3 solo exhibitions. Her paintings are in the collection of McGill University, (Montreal, Quebec), Peel District School Board (Mississauga, Ontario) and the Living Arts Centre (Mississauga, Ontario), and in numerous private collections in Canada, England, Bermuda, and the U.S.A.
No matter the subject matter, I strive to reveal the spirit and story within. My appreciation for solitude, that is not lonely, is often a theme to my work. A positive thinking artist, my work often reflects this in its beautiful colour, the viewpoint of looking up, and sometimes a touch of humor. The impact of scale on a work intrigues me. My cat painting portraits, for example, are 4 - 6 feet tall. My portraits of people are often large scale, or just the opposite - 6" x 6" small - the little faces, usually of children, equally full of character. I love the act of oil painting, the blending, glow and beautiful colours of the oil paints.
