About This Piece
Portrait of a silver Main Coon cat. Th original feline portrait (sold) is a large scale silver, black and white cat painting in oil stick and oil painting. Dramatic, Whismsical yet beautiful, too. , and whimsy , too. Cats! A familiar subject matter but this realism painting presents the domestic feline from an unusual, edgy and humorus point of view. The large scale of the original, 48" x 48" creates the illusion that the viewer is something much smaller. Hence , the title "Who's For Dinner?".
No matter the subject matter, I strive to reveal the spirit and story within. My appreciation for solitude, that is not lonely, is often a theme to my work. A positive thinking artist, my work often reflects this in its beautiful colour, the viewpoint of looking up, and sometimes a touch of humor. The impact of scale on a work intrigues me. My cat painting portraits, for example, are 4 - 6 feet tall. My portraits of people are often large scale, or just the opposite - 6" x 6" small - the little faces, usually of children, equally full of character. I love the act of oil painting, the blending, glow and beautiful colours of the oil paints.
