About This Piece
One of the more fascinating activities of living close to the sea is beach-combing. The quirks of the tide have a great influence on the quantity and quality of the flotsam and jetsam to be found on the tide line where beach-combers can find everything from plastic fishing floats to exotic nuts and seeds. One of the commonest finds on the local beaches is wood, in a large array of sizes and shapes.
I became particularly fascinated by some pieces that were formed by natural grafting that caused the branches to join together in a haphazard way. They often took on shapes best described as human-like, or anthropomorphic; to some eyes they may appear a little suggestive, but that’s part of their charm.
There are no rules and regulations for perfect composition. If there were we would be able to put all the information into a computer and would come out with a masterpiece. We know that's impossible. You have to compose by the seat of your pants ....Arnold Newman
There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see, is what we are ...Ernst Haas
I think those two quotes summarise my view of photography.
