This was the result of discovering this glorious cove where The Vale of Lanherne in Cornwall meets the sea. It was the contrast between the towering cliffs
and the great expanse of gently sloping beach, whose pools mirror the forms
beyond them, that caught my painters eye.
My approach to painting and drawing is based on a sense of design that was confirmed for me by two formative years spent in Italy after graduating from Art College in the 1970s. At the same time a sensuous enjoyment of colour, tone and texture is important to me. This probably stems from a childhood partly spent in the tropics as my family lived for several years in Africa.
Cornwall has brought together these various personal tastes of mine through its landscape, culture and over-arching quality of maritime light.
